English: This was a project for a graphic design class at California College of the Arts. The assignment was an agitprop poster. I did not want to create yet another anti-war poster but the subject was something which I felt more compelled by than any others I explored. After deciding on the graphic element I agonized for a couple weeks on what the type element would be. Finally I decided on having no typographic element. The image speaks for itself and says a lot. The graphic language is stark and simple. The black and red hark back to classic revolutionary colors. The poster is intended to bring awareness to the issue of the relationship between gasoline consumption and the U.S. military strategy abroad. The message is aimed at all who use gasoline in the hope that appreciation of this problem will help bring about a change. It is intended to be displayed in public spaces. Primary means of distribution have been guerilla techniques including stickers, spray painted stencils, wheat pasted posters, etc. Ideally I would like to write a grant proposal to obtain billboard space legally. GasTank has been recognized by AIGA 365/28 competition and Graphis New Talent 2008.
